SAVING LIVES:  The Six Cents Initiative

At the 2007 International Convention, CKI members got the news about a new Service Initiative.  Earlier that year, members were asked to choose from several possible choices and they chose The Six Cents Initiative

With UNICEF as our partner, we will work to help raise money to provide safe drinking water around the world.  CKI has committed to raising US$500,000!

So why Six Cents?

Despite dehydration ranking as one of the most common threats to child survival, it is also one of the most preventable with the help of an inexpensive mixture of sugar, salt, and water known as oral rehydration salts (ORS). ORS are the simplest, most effective, and cheapest way to keep children alive during severe episodes of dehydration. One sachet of ORS only costs US$0.06 cents. Think of how many lives we can effect!

How do we donate?

Go to www.unicefusa.org/CircleK and print the donation transmittal form.  Instructions for where to send the money are on the form.  Then send an e-mail to the CKI Service Committee Chair at subregiong@circlek.org
